Can a pen be Ergonomic?
How can a pen be Ergonomic? The pens that are labeled Ergonomic claim they can reduce the stress on our fingers and hands while writing, reducing our pinch grip on the pen. They usually have a thicker, cushioned barrel. We tend to pinch the bottom of the pen when writing. Remember the Cross pens which are very slick and silver or gold in color? You look good when using it, but it is thin and has a small barrel causing you to pinch the pen between the thumb and index finger and resting on the middle finger. The thicker pens prevent hand and finger fatigue while writing, especially if you do a lot of writing or correcting of school papers. For example, the Pilot Dr. Grip pen has a rubber, wide barrel “latex-free cushioned grip to help reduce writing stress”. The Paper Mate PhD pen has a triangular shape which “helps reduce the amount of pressure required to write. The ergonomic cushioned triangular grip for comfort, control, and less fatigue.” This is endorsed by the American Physical Therapy Association.
Try a few out and see which pens feel comfortable in your hand. Refer to my product list for recommended ergonomic pens. Also, refer to the below article regarding picking out the best Ergonomic pens.
